From August 29th till September 1st the roads in the Western part of The Netherlands were even more appealing than usual. Some 110 vintage Cadillacs drove to various destinations like the very old typical Dutch village of Zaansche Schans, interesting exhibitions featuring Cadillac or the famous Louwman Museum.

The Grand European 2013 was organized by the Cadillac Club Netherlands (CCN) and supported by Cadillac Europe and the local Cadillac importer. There are 13 European Cadillac clubs, working closely together and supporting each other’s events. Every two years this culminates in a European Grand Gathering and in 2013 Holland had the honour of being the host. Koen Ongkiehong, President of the CCN: “We experienced an awesome event without any problems. All classic Cadillacs performed well and some of the participants travelled up to 2.000 kilometres with their car to be part of the festivities. They were very pleased to cruise with their vintage Cadillac cars to the various locations like the US Classic Car dealer LaSalle, the private Cadillac collection of Ton Rijnbeek and the Corvette museum in Wezep. The guests enjoyed these highlights very much and the atmosphere was great.”

“It is great to see the myriad of Cadillac owners from three continents, exploring the beautiful Netherlands in their Cadillacs and to witness the enthusiasm each and everyone has for the brand. This is brand loyalty at its best and makes me feel proud to be part of Cadillac”: said Tom Anliker, Managing Director Cadillac Europe, who hosted the event. “Some 110 cars in impeccable condition put the shine on this great event and highlight the 111 year history of Cadillac. This illustrates the strong roots and shows the  great potential for a bright future of the brand.”

The oldest Cadillac at the meeting, a V12 5 seat Town Sedan dating back to 1933, was driven to the Netherlands from Great Britain under its own power and the most remote participant arrived from the US. Many of the Cadillacs on sight were icons in their own right, like the 1959 Eldorados with the tallest tailfins of all times. One of these spectacular cars was given the Grand European 2013 Award.

On Sunday September 1st a total of 168 Cadillacs gathered for the Big Cadillac Event. Never before were so many Cadillacs seen in one location in The Netherlands.

The next Cadillac Grand European meeting will take place in 2015 in Switzerland.
